125! years of the inventor of the motor car: Mercedes-Benz Museum opens new exhibition room

This coming Saturday marks 125 years of automotive history, as it was on 29 January 1886 that Carl Benz received the patent for the first motor car, heralding the birth of the automobile. “Inventors of the automobile. Since 1886!”: Mercedes-Benz anniversary campaign to launch the 125 year birthday of the automobile

Stuttgart. On 29 January 1886, Carl Benz changed the world when he filed a patent application (number 37435) for his “gas engine-powered vehicle” with the Reich Patent Office in Berlin. This marked the birth of the automobile. Mercedes-Benz has since had around 80,000 pioneering inventions patented. The Mercedes brand is thus fittingly celebrating the anniversary of the invention of the automobile under the banner “125! years of innovation”. The anniversary year will kick off with an advertising campaign which will run in the print media, on TV and on the internet from 19 January to 2 February 2011.
