The Brabus 700 GR Widestar: Probably the fastest way to drive your wife’s mother…back to her own house.
To clarify something, the most powerful GL is certainly GL 63 AMG and is a performance full-size luxury SUV in a class of its own. But as we know, customers/owners aren’t always looking for price, sometimes they’re actually looking for a little more individuality and/or better performance. Those types of customers/owners are exactly what Brabus are gunning for with their 700 GR Widestar.
Brabus fully utilizes the potential of the 5.5-liter V8 Biturbo engine. At the heart of the engine conversion are the newly designed peripherals of the turbocharged eight-cylinder four-valve engine. There are now two new Brabus turbochargers with larger compressor units, new intake and charge-air pipes with gold heat reflection insulation with larger compressor unit that generate a higher boost than the production turbos.
The result consists of 700 horsepower (690 bhp) at 5,300 rpm. Just as impressive is the increase in peak torque to 960 Nm (708 lb-ft). Peak torque is limited electronically to protect the drivetrain. The combination of ultra-powerful engine and SPEEDSHIFT PLUS 7G-TRONIC automatic transmission achieves performance levels that previously seemed more likely for a sports car than for an SUV. From rest the all-wheel-drive car storms to 100 km/h (62 mph) in just 4.6 seconds. Top speed is electronically limited to 300 km/h (186 mph).
The exterior and interior design have also received Brabus’ magic touch. Visually the 700 GR impresses with its thrilling widebody version. The Brabus Widestar body conversion is dominated by the striking fenders flares front and back, which add eight centimeters to the width of the large SUV. The Widestar Widebody version also creates space for extreme-sized wheels. Underneath the large wheel arches is just enough space for forged 23-inch high-tech wheels. The Brabus control module for the AIRMATIC air suspension is calibrated specifically to the sporty tire/wheel combination. It lowers the ride height of the vehicle by about 30 millimeters.
The interior is, as usual, another Brabus specialty. Options include stainless-steel scuff plates with backlit Brabus logo and exquisite Brabus fine leather interiors made of masterfully finished combinations of the finest Mastik leather and Alcantara.
