In a warm summer night in late June on the castle Böttstein in picturesque Switzerland, a project was presented that is already inspiring the world of motorsport: The SLK 340 Carlsson.
Reto Meisel and his team presented the ambitious racing project within the more than 200 years old castle walls to interested customers and partners from all over Europe. The main importer of Carlsson for Switzerland, the Carlsson Schweiz AG, is also a partner in this project.
Team manager Reto Meisel could engage Martin Burmeister, a very experienced race engineer. The team is building on this valuable experience in the design and manufacture of a new race car. Only the actual SLK from Mercedes-Benz currently meets the demands of mountain racing. From a technical point of view however, no stone is left unturned. The re-construction efforts to turn the vehicle into a mountain racing car are enormous.
The numerous arrangements as well as an almost never-ending list of technical finesses can be read as follows:
– Transaxle, and Hewland and four wheel drive
– V8 naturally aspirated engine, from the English producer Judd
– Specially developed double wishbone axes with KW springs and dampers
– Column shift from Megaline
– Racing ABS from Teves
– Revised traction control
– Extremely lightweight, with a goal of weighing less than 800 kg
– Specially developed tires
In mid-March 2013, the new SLK will be presented at the Carlsson Autotechnik GmbH booth at the Geneva Motor Show. Declared aim or Reto Meisel and his team is the participation in international events of the European Championship and in the Pikes Peak Hill Climb in America.
